For our National Day of Service, honoring the fallen heroes of 9/11, we’d like to show our local first responders how much we appreciate their service to our own communities. &nbsp;The idea for this specific service came from a law enforcement officer who was asked if he knew of a meaningful way for the community to show their gratitude. He expressed, with emotion, how much it means for his associates to be fed a warm meal, and to receive cards and letters from those they serve.&nbsp; &nbsp;As a tribute, and out of respect for those who selflessly served and fell on 9/11, let's show our local first responders how much we appreciate the service they give to our community! &nbsp; Please sign up as a volunteer to donate a hot meal or any denomination grocery gift card, treats, and/or cards and letters of appreciation and drop them off at your local police department, fire station, or EMS during the week of 9/11. This service is to be done preferably September 9-11. &nbsp;The sign up will show September 9 as the date, but you can choose to do the 10th or 11th instead. &nbsp; Please call the contact number provided for the station you volunteer for below, ahead of time, to verify details, times, number of personnel at location. If I have incorrect numbers for any station, I apologize in advance. In that case, please give it your best effort to contact the station you choose to serve.&nbsp; Some stations, especially those in Wilmington/ New Hanover County, have very large numbers of personnel, and it may not be feasible to feed them all a warm meal without large groups volunteering to work together. In that case it might be a good idea to bake cookies in bulk, etc, and bring along cards, letters and posters. &nbsp; &nbsp;The sign up helps us know how many officers/ firefighters/ EMT’s are being served. Side note: It is nearly impossible to get the information on every station. If we have missed any that you know of, please, if you're able, find a way to show them some love!&nbsp;&nbsp;This could be a great family project that also includes having children, young men and women, and the elderly and homebound making cards/posters, and writing letters of appreciation for our first responders.&nbsp; If you take any photos while there, especially any including families with children with the first responders that you don’t mind sharing, please send to shelliek@bellsouth.net.
